You’re Not That Smart, So Follow the Instructions

From today’s reading…

Add nothing to his words, lest he reprove you, and you will be exposed as a deceiver.”

When I first hired a sales coach he beat it into my head to be a “product of the product.”

In other words, I had to follow his system until it seeped into my soul and became a part of my being.

He had a proven system. I was in need of a proven system. So it would’ve been foolish to pay for a “cure” to sales issues and not follow the prescription to the letter.

Guess what happened. I got better at sales and I’ve been able to provide for my family as a salesman and entrepreneur thanks to the many lessons I learned—and applied—from Steve.

But humans are funny creatures.

We buy books and don’t read them.

We buy CDs and don’t listen to them.

We pay to attend conferences and sit out in the hall talking on the phone and debating on Facebook.

We buy gym memberships and don’t work out.

We stop taking our medicine as soon as we feel better even though we know the infection is not gone, we’ve just masked the symptoms.

And we think we’re smarter than God.

We wouldn’t tell Elon Musk how to build a Tesla, but we’ll tell God how to build a soul.

Everything you buy from toothpaste to your iPhone to your coffee maker comes with instructions.

So does your soul.

Before you try to modify those instructions, try reading—and understanding—them all first, because that’s the only way to…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.
