Your Salvation Requires Your Sweat

From today’s reading…

For we are God’s co-workers;

you are God’s field, God’s building.” 1 Corinthians 3:9

Why does God, the Creator of the universe, the omnipotent One, the omnipresent One, the omniscient One need co-workers? Why does He need vain, slothful, greedy helpers? Why does he need gluttonous, unchaste, angry, envious helpers?

The same reason your mom needs your “help” when you’re six and she’s baking in the kitchen. The same reason your dad needs your “help” when you’re seven and he’s working on the car in the garage.

You learn best when you get off your butt and participate in the task being taught. We learn by doing. We learn by imitation and emulation.

If you were on the driving range at Augusta with Tiger Woods, you’d pay close attention to the lessons he was imparting and you’d probably play the best golf of your life that day.

If you were in Madison Square Garden getting lessons from Larry Byrd, you’d pay close attention to the lessons he was imparting and you’d probably kick your friend’s rear end when you went home for your weekend 1-on-1 game.

Under Armour® has a slogan, “Protect This House,” which has helped them sell a lot of clothing and gear.

If protecting a football field or basketball court is important to you as a fan, how much more important is it for you to work with your neighbor to protect God’s house?

Your salvation is not a spectator sport. It’s full-contact, which is why you must…
