Your Heart Has Grown Haughty From Your Riches

From today’s reading…

By your great wisdom applied to your trading

you have heaped up your riches;

your heart has grown haughty from your riches–“ Ezekiel 28:5

Ezekiel could throw shade with the best of ‘em.

In today’s reading he mocks the arrogant leader of Tyre, who claims he’s divine as evidenced by his city’s prosperity under his reign. Ezekiel then gives him a heads up that the real and only God will prove who the real boss is by sending a foreign army to kill him in an unceremonious, even humiliating way.

Why do we allow success to go to our heads? Why do we think our trees will grow to the sky? Why do we think the good times will never end? After the Dot Com implosion of 2000, the Great Recession of 2008, and now the COVID-19 lockdown—not to mention Hurricanes Katrina and Harvey the California Camp fire of 2018, etc.—why do we think hard times won’t come our way?

Cemeteries are filled with irreplaceable men and women.

Your time—and your successes and your riches—is fleeting. To ensure you have a glorious death and a more glorious eternity, you need to…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.

Now go sell something.
