Your Bad Is All Good

From today’s reading…

But now do not be distressed,

and do not reproach yourselves for having sold me here.”

That’s Joseph talking to his brothers who sold him into slavery many years prior because they were jealous of him.

If I remember correctly, Joseph was 17 when he was sold into slavery and at 30 he was put in charge of all in Egypt by the Pharaoh himself.

Then it was seven more years before he came face-to-face with his brothers.

But imagine what was going through his mind as he was a slave and prisoner for years.

Did he hang his head and lick his wounds and make excuses for his predicament or did he have faith that things would work out?

He held his head high. He gave counsel to fellow prisoners who didn’t keep their word for years but it all worked out soon enough.

Notice, too, that Joseph didn’t hold a grudge. He didn’t hate his brothers. He forgave them and was even generous to them before he revealed himself to them.

So hate all you want. Hold grudges. Feel sorry for yourself. Blame your mean family for your situation. Blame your boss. Blame your co-workers. Blame your friends who borrow from you and never give anything in return.

Let me know how that works out for you.

Or you can endure.

Stay the course. Keep the faith.

The choice is yours.
