You Have No Love of God In You

From today’s reading…

You pore over the scriptures, believing that in them you can find eternal life; it is these scriptures that testify to me, and yet you refuse to come to me to receive life!” John 5:39-40

“But Wes, Jesus is wrong. Scripture is all we need.”

“But Wes, Jesus is wrong. Jesus is everywhere. I don’t need to go to a building on Sunday to find Him.”

“But Wes, Jesus is wrong. Going to a building and receiving Him in the Eucharist is religious. I’m spiritual, not religious.”

“But Wes, Jesus is wrong. I have found eternal life because I have accepted Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior so I am saved! Yes, this I know. The scriptures tell me so.”

“But Wes, Jesus is wrong. I don’t need to go to some sinful human and confess my sins. I go directly to Jesus…as I sit on my couch…during commercial breaks…in between the Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion and Doja Cat stripping and grinding routines at the Grammys.”

Jesus goes on to say, “Human glory means nothing to me. Besides, I know you too well: you have no love of God in you.” (John 5:41-42)

Ouch.

Are you seeking glory, are you seeking Jesus, or are you seeking recognition for how the public sees you pretending to seek Jesus?

Get to church. Get on your knees. Open your heart. Let Jesus in. It’s the only way to…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.

Now go sell something.
