Without This You Know Nothing

From today’s reading…

Whoever is without love does not know God, for God is love.”

There are two types of people in the world:

  1. Those who believe in God (or intelligent design or a higher power).

  2. Those who don’t.

For those who don’t believe in God, I pray for one of two things:

  1. That you’re right. Or,

  2. That my loving God is a merciful as I believe Him to be.

There are two more types of people in the world:

  1. Those who believe love is love.

  2. Those who believe that not all love is created equal because not everything we call love is really love.

I know, that’s a lot of loves, but stay with me.

The concept of God is both simple and incomprehensible.

On the one hand, He’s an all-knowing, all-present, all-powerful (i.e. omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent) deity who has counted the hairs on your head, the grains of sand on the beach, and the stars in the sky…because He spoke them all into existence.

On the other hand,…re-read the previous sentence.

If you believe in God then you also believe that to bring life into existence is powerful because life is a miracle, life is fragile, and, because you believe in God, you believe that life is eternal.

So the type of freely-given, fully-given love that can co-create an eternal life with God is different from what others call love that does not live up to that powerful description.

But however you define love, the Creator of love loves you, as long as you do all you can to…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.
