With Loud Cries and With Tears

From today’s reading…

During his life on earth, he offered up prayer and entreaty, with loud cries and with tears, to the one who had the power to save him from death, and, winning a hearing by his reverence, he learnt obedience, Son though he was, through his sufferings; when he had been perfected, he became for all who obey him the source of eternal salvation…” Hebrews 5:7-9

The Son—THE Son—had to suffer to complete His calling. Instead of asking “Why me?” ask “Why not me?”

The world is a big place.

Sometimes it’s cold, lonely, and dangerous.

We cannot remove all of the dangers, so it is literal child abuse to lock your children away in a dungeon to “protect” them and “keep them safe.”

All that does is make them weak, scared, and dependent.

No.

Our job as loving parents is not to protect our children but to prepare them.

We cannot remove everything that would frighten or harm them, but we can make them brave, strong, courageous.

We can give them vision.

We can explain their calling.

We can help them see the big picture, so they know their place in the world.

In so doing, they will know why there is suffering in the world, and they will know they must emulate Jesus as they…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.
