Beloved:

Who is the liar?

Whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ.

Whoever denies the Father and the Son, this is the antichrist.”

1 John 2 was written before 100 A.D., and there was already confusion and debate about the nature of Jesus.

Was He just a holy man? Maybe a blessed prophet?

Was He God who simply took the form of a man?

Or was He fully human and fully God?

While this verse from 1 John does not discuss the human nature of Jesus, he leaves no room for doubt about His divine nature.

Jesus is the way and the truth and the life. (John 14:6)
