When The Rock Speaks, People Listen

From today’s reading…

After much debate had taken place,

Peter got up and said to the Apostles and the presbyters,…”

The immortals in “Highlander” were right. “There can be only one.”

Your mom was right. “Too many cooks spoil the broth.”

“A camel is a horse made by committee.”

Successful companies run by co-CEOs with equal power are the exception, rather than the norm.

To make something that stands the test of time requires one leader to be chosen and followed.

Yet Peter, being the inspired leader that he was, yielded the floor to Paul, Barnabas, and James to help make his point once he let those assembled know what he felt was the right course of action.

True leaders are fine with sharing credit, lifting others, stepping aside so others can shine, as long as it keeps the organization moving in the right direction.

True leaders surround themselves with great people.

True leaders know two heads are better than one while also owning their role as the stopper of the buck.

So take comfort in knowing you are following the one, true Lord who chose The First, The Original, The Real Rock to lead His Church, and who put a process in place for continuous, holy, truthful leadership that has lasted 2,000 years and will last 2,000 times 2,000 years more to help us…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.
