We Have an Advocate

From today’s reading…

My children, I am writing this to prevent you from sinning; but if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ, the upright. He is the sacrifice to expiate our sins, and not only ours, but also those of the whole world.” 1 John 2:1-2

In other words, we have a “get out of jail” card, but it’s not free. There are no free lunches and there is no free salvation.

Jesus paid the price for you to get out of eternal jail but it’s not a license to lie, steal, and cheat.

It’s not as though you’re a member of the UN who can ignore all of our laws and claim diplomatic immunity.

The salvation God gives us is based on the covenant He made with us.

It’s a promise from a Father to a child, from a bridegroom to His wife, from the Creator to His created.

We must actively and willingly participate in our own salvation.

We do that by accepting His covenant and His help in the form of the Holy Spirit, which is the only way to…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.
