We Give Wisdom Delight

From today’s reading…

When the Lord established the heavens I was there,…

then was I beside him as his craftsman,…

and I found delight in the human race.”

We see this attributed to the “wisdom of God” in today’s first reading from Proverbs 8, which is Wisdom’s longest speech in the book of Proverbs.

It’s comforting to know that the Woman of Wisdom (see Sirach 24) was with God and a part of God from the beginning and that He and She take delight in our existence. (But not all of our actions. But that’s a topic for another day.)

As we muddle and fuddle our way through the life, wondering what the heck is going on, we grapple with tough questions, namely:

  • Does God exist?

  • Is God good?

  • Does God have a plan?

  • Does God have a plan for me?

  • Do I have a choice in God’s plan for me?

  • Is there life after death?

If God does not exist then literally nothing matters.

Embrace YOLO fully.

Go forth and rape, rob, pillage, and plunder.

Don’t ponder your existence.

Don’t think about how many times you’d have to drop a bag of Lego’s® to have them connect into the form of a battleship. Just go get yours.

If you fall into the other camp, and know in your heart of hearts that God does exist, then take comfort in today’s first reading and know that where Wisdom abounds, so does goodness and life.

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.
