Then They Laid Hands On Them

From today’s reading…

Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.” Acts 8:17

Who laid hands on whom and why? Philip was baptizing the Samaritans who believed the salvific message of Jesus, which was a great thing, but it was not complete.

The apostles, i.e., the leaders of the Church, sent some of their own, Peter and John, to touch them and bring the Holy Spirit to them.

In the Catholic Church, we recognize seven sacraments.

Deacons can perform some of them, priests can perform more of them, but only bishops have the sacramental authority to perform all seven, much like we see here in Acts 8 today.

Follow the apostolic tradition created by Jesus, which is the only way to…

Stay the course.Keep the faith.Endure.
