The Rulers Lord It Over You

From today’s reading…

But Jesus called them to him and said, ‘You know that among the gentiles the rulers lord it over them, and great men make their authority felt.’” Matthew 20:25

Today Jeremiah is slandered as his contemporaries conspire to bring him down in Jeremiah 18.

Psalm 31 is a prayer to be rescued “from the clutches of my foes who pursue me.” (v15)

And in Matthew 20, Jesus pulls “the Twelve aside by themselves” to let them know He did not come to live a life of luxury that Robin Leach would film for “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous,” and neither did you or me.

He came to show us how an individual can change the world…How to live a life of meaning and purpose…How to willingly shoulder the toils and troubles of life to make it more tolerable and even better for those who come after us.

So don’t worry about fame and fortune, about seats of honor, or lording your authority over others.

Nope.

Just seek to serve, which means taking the abuse, assaults, and attacks that will surely come your way because that’s the only way to…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.

Now go sell something.
