The Point of Cyrus Anoint

From today’s reading…

Thus says Yahweh to his anointed one, to Cyrus whom, he says, I have grasped by his right hand, to make the nations bow before him and to disarm kings, to open gateways before him so that their gates be closed no more:…” Isaiah 45:1

Cyrus was not Jewish, yet he was anointed and called by God to do great things in His name. (Granted, Cyrus was a king but the argument could be made that due to his prominence, power, and comfort in life it was harder for him to follow God’s calling since he had so many worldly pleasures to lose.)

So don’t question God’s wisdom. He can call you and me to do great things or small things in a great way. He can call Obama and Trump to sing His praises and set His people free. He can even lead CNN to once again start reporting facts without editorializing them. (I told you God is all-powerful!)

Know that God has a plan and trust—but verify—when His plan includes calling a prominent figure to publicly shift gears and help others…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.

Now go sell something.
