The Path of the Wicked Is Doomed

From today’s reading…

How different the wicked, how different! Just like chaff blown around by the wind…For Yahweh watches over the path of the upright, but the path of the wicked is doomed.” Psalm 1:4, 6

At this point in our Lenten journey over the last three years, I’ve pulled from today’s first reading from Jeremiah 17, which, like today’s Psalm, also compares and contrasts what happens to those who take shortcuts for temporary, earthly gains versus those who “(trust) in Yahweh.”

Jeremiah describes those “who (rely) on human strength” as “scrub in the wastelands” who miss out on the good in life.

Then we have Jesus jumping off the top rope onto our heads in Luke 16 with the story of Lazarus and the rich man.

So every year at this point in our Lenten journey, we are given three reminders of how to conduct ourselves, in whom to place our trust, and what happens if we do not.

The lessons are not subtle. There is no mincing of words. There are no do-overs. Read and heed, which is the only way to…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.

Now go sell something.
