Beloved: You must say what is consistent with sound doctrine,… so that the word of God may not be discredited.”
There are many who will read this and fight like a Gladiator in the Colosseum over the meaning of the words sound, doctrine, consistent, God, and discredited.
They think they are cute or intelligent or funny or entertaining by ceaselessly parsing words and phrases until they are literally unintelligible, which is precisely their goal.
Those with evil in their hearts know they cannot win on the merits of their arguments so they twist things around to trap and ensnare those who are weak or whose faith is not yet fully formed.
Isaiah had a warning for those people…
Woe to those who call what is bad, good, and what is good, bad, who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness, who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.”
