From today’s reading…

Look, I shall send my messenger to clear a way before me. And suddenly the Lord whom you seek will come to his Temple; yes, the angel of the covenant, for whom you long, is on his way, says Yahweh Sabaoth.” Malachi 3:1

Two thousand five hundred years ago Malachi was putting pen to paper (or was it charcoal to parchment, or chisel to stone?). He was prophesying what the Lord told him would happen.

Five or six hundred years later, God was telling Luke to write about what he had experienced, which had been predicted over 500 years before Luke lived through it.

What Malachi predicted and Luke experienced was the coming of John the Baptist, who cleared the way for the birth of the one we celebrate in two days who cleared the ultimate way for us to…
