Strong Idols = Weak Conscience

From today’s reading…

But not all have this knowledge.

There are some who have been so used to idolatry up until now

that, when they eat meat sacrificed to idols,

their conscience, which is weak, is defiled.” 1 Corinthians 8:7

The knowledge about which Paul is referring is knowledge of God as the Father, “and one Lord, Jesus Christ.”

The eating of meat used in pagan rituals is a representation of the countless sins we all commit both knowingly and unknowingly, willfully, and habitually.

If we have formed our consciences as we should, then we cannot participate, condone, or encourage sinful acts even if that requires us to give up something we enjoy because we are to “avoid the near occasion of sin.”

After all, we are our brother’s keeper, right?

So if not for you, for them, please…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.

Now go sell something.
