Stand on the Hill With God

From today’s reading…

In those days, Amalek came and waged war against Israel.

Moses, therefore, said to Joshua,

‘Pick out certain men,

and tomorrow go out and engage Amalek in battle.

I will be standing on top of the hill

with the staff of God in my hand.’”

Ever notice how good things seem to always be up?

  • Keep your chin up

  • We look up to wish upon a star

  • The Greeks looked up to Olympus

  • The Aztecs climbed Templo Mayor for their sacrifices to Huitzilopochtli

  • As we march in the military we sing “Ain’t no sense in looking down. Ain’t no paycheck on the ground.”

Now we see Moses on top of the hill during the battle recounted in Exodus 17 today. (And of course, Jesus was taken to the hill of Calvary/Golgotha and raised up even higher for His crucifixion.)

Because we are made in the image and likeness of God, it is literally in our DNA to know there is a higher power. (There’s that reference to height again.)

To be all-seeing one must have a higher vantage point.

When we can see clearly we can correctly decide the best course of action.

But climbing, observing, analyzing, deciding, and following the correct course of action can exhaust even the wisest among us.

While it’s certainly inspiring to know you’re on the side of good, you still must pick a side and stay there because the other side wants to fight.

So choose your friends carefully, for their ability to support you will be instrumental in helping you to…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.
