Sleep In The Doorway

From today’s reading…

But Uriah slept at the entrance of the royal palace

with the other officers of his lord, and did not go down

to his own house.” 2 Sam 11:9

For several days we’ve been reading about how wonderful David was only to be punched in the gut with his actions today.

Not only does he not lead his troops into battle, but he also seduces the wife of one of his officers and when he discovers she became pregnant from their dalliance, David arranges for Uriah to be killed in battle.

Interwoven into this story is the focus on what a good guy Uriah, the husband of Bathsheba, is.

He was so loyal to his troops that even though he was home he would not allow himself the comforts of his own home and wife since his fellow soldiers were not afforded the same luxury.

If he was just 1% less-dedicated to his troops his life would’ve been spared.

Instead, David participates in a conspiracy to have Uriah killed to cover up his adulterous affair.

Two wrongs really don’t make a right, so be like Uriah and forego small comforts if they do not help you to…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.

Now go sell something.
