At sunrise, as he left Penuel,

Jacob limped along because of his hip.”

Jacob is renamed Israel today after his “successful” wrestling match with a “man.” (Or was it an angel? Or was it God?)

Regardless, it was a heck of a wrestling match, lasting from midnight until dawn.

As a cheater, Jacob was struck in the hip—which was considered a cheap shot—by the angel to remind Jacob that he is alive because God wants him alive.
