Rouse One Another

From today’s reading…

We must consider how to rouse one another to love and good works.

We should not stay away from our assembly,

as is the custom of some, but encourage one another,

and this all the more as you see the day drawing near.”

When I hear people tell me their faith and relationship with God is personal—that they are spiritual but don’t belong to “organized religion”—I wonder how they got so lazy or scared or ignorant of their Christian faith.

Paul is telling the readers in Hebrews today that they are to be out together supporting one another.

In today’s Gospel from Mark Jesus tells the story of how crazy it would be to light a lamp and place it under a basket or a bed.

You’ve heard this before and you’re hearing it now. God is love and for love to exist there must be someone else to love, which means Jesus existed from the beginning. Love ultimately manifests itself in the creation of new life, which is the Holy Spirit, who like God the Father and God the Son and the love between them, has existed from the beginning.

So God is community, which means if you are to follow in His footsteps you will live in community, providing light to those in darkness, because walking with others in the light is the only way to…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.
