Reach Through The Curtain

From today’s reading…

This is the anchor our souls have, reaching right through inside the curtain where Jesus has entered as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest for ever, of the order of Melchizedek.” Hebrews 6:19-20

Back in the day—and still to this day in the Jewish faith—only the high priest was allowed inside the Holy of Holies, which refers to the inner sanctuary of the Tabernacle where God’s presence appeared. According to Hebrew Tradition, the area was defined by four pillars that held up the veil of the covering, under which the Ark of the Covenant was held above the floor. The Ark according to Hebrew Scripture contained the Ten Commandments, which were given by God to Moses on Mount Sinai. King Solomon built the Temple in Jerusalem, where the Ark of the Covenant was supposed to be kept. (Wikipedia)

Melchizedek was the high priest who brought out bread and wine, instead of the normal bull or ram or lamb, during their worshipping and blessed Abram in Genesis. In order to do so, he would have entered the temple and “reached through the inside curtain” to prepare and bless the sacrificial gifts, which foreshadows Jesus.

But unlike Melchizedek, Jesus provides the perfect sacrifice. The complete sacrifice. Melchizedek was the forerunner for Jesus, and Jesus is our eternal forerunner. Now, all we have to do is…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.
