Plant Your Roots To Weather The Drought

From today’s reading…

Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD,

whose hope is the LORD.

He is like a tree planted beside the waters

that stretches out its roots to the stream:

It fears not the heat when it comes,

its leaves stay green;

In the year of drought it shows no distress,

but still bears fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7-8

This COVID-19 has the world freaking out.

We’re seeing where our weaknesses are as a species, as a nation, as a community (why is Costco out of toilet paper?), a company, and even as a family.

Companies are going out of business. Colleges are going all online. (Probably a good thing moving forward.) Schools are being closed. Workers are being told to stay home. Grocery stores are running out of stupid things because scared, unprepared people with no connection to the past and no vision for the future do stupid things.

Tough times always follow good times. You’ll get through this. It will probably get tougher before it gets better, but you’ll get through it.

To help you get through these times and to appreciate the good times that follow while also preparing for the bad times that will again come our way, repeat this prayer I saw Fr. Goyo share on Twitter today:

“Lord, help me Be prepared, but not anxious. Be aware, but not desperate. Be vigilant, but not in fear .Be joyful, but not clueless. Be faithful, but not careless. Lord, be my hope and strength.”

Following the guidance of that prayer is the only way to…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.
