Persistence Is Prosperous

From today’s reading…

“Then Abraham drew nearer and said:

‘Will you sweep away the innocent with the guilty?

Suppose there were fifty innocent people in the city;…

What if there are five less than fifty innocent people?…

What if only forty are found there?…

What if only thirty are found there?

…what if there are no more than twenty?…

What if there are at least ten there?’

(God) replied, ‘For the sake of those ten, I will not destroy it.’”

We had this same reading just four weeks ago on Monday, July 1st, where I focused on how leaders aren’t afraid to ask the hard questions.

Today, being Sunday, we have a second reading and a different Gospel, along with this first reading and a Psalm, all of which are woven together to drive home the importance of persistence in our petitions to the Lord because He is merciful.

In Genesis 18 we see Abraham pepper God with at least seven questions on the same topic, and God gave Abraham what he asked for every time. (I know my momma would’ve taken out that wooden cooking spoon—I was 12 before I knew you actually cooked with those things—and tanned my backside by the third question,)

In Psalm 138 we read,…

When I called you answered me; you built up strength within me.”

In Colossians 2 we are reminded of how Jesus…

brought you to life along with him, having forgiven us all our transgressions;…”

Finally, in Luke 11, Jesus reminds us that even neighbors give to us due to our persistence in asking, even if they are not particularly friendly.

But we must seek to find. We must knock for the doors to be opened. We must ask to receive.

The Father will give you the Holy Spirit if you ask, and asking for His guidance and love is the only way to…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.
