Out vs In Is The Greater Sin

From today’s reading…

But what comes out of the man, that is what defiles him.

From within the man, from his heart,

come evil thoughts, unchastity, theft, murder,

adultery, greed, malice, deceit,

licentiousness, envy, blasphemy, arrogance, folly.

All these evils come from within and they defile.” Mark 7:20-23

Yesterday we read the story leading up to this where the Pharisees were upset that Jesus and His disciples were not cleaning their hands according to their laws/rituals and this is Jesus put them in place.

But an interesting side note to today’s reading is that the verses above come from a private conversation Jesus had with his disciples, who were confused about the parable He told to the Pharisees.

While Jesus came to divide (Luke 12:51), it was not due to lies or confusion, but by speaking the truth clearly and boldly, which is why He takes the time to clarify His message to His disciples. 

[Sidebar: Jesus said what He meant and meant what He said in John 6:22-71, which is why you do not see Him take the time to explain it any further to those who were there.]

So eat and drink what you want, but do so in moderation and only consume that which makes you stronger, healthier, and better able to…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.

Now go sell something.
