On You Yahweh Is Rising

From today’s reading…

Look! though night still covers the earth and darkness the peoples, on you Yahweh is rising and over you his glory can be seen. The nations will come to your light and kings to your dawning brightness.” Isaiah 60:2-3

Today we celebrate the epiphany of the Lord, which means Christ reveals Himself to the Gentiles, which Isaiah predicted and Matthew retold in chapter two today.

Psalm 72 also foretells the power of Christ: “His empire shall stretch from sea to sea, from the river to the limits of the earth…the kings of Tarshish and the islands will pay him tribute. The kings of Sheba and Saba will offer gifts; all kings will do him homage, all nations become his servants.” (v8, 10-11)

And in Ephesians 3 today, Paul drives home the point “that the gentiles now have the same inheritance and form the same Body and enjoy the same promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.”

We live in dark times today.

The nights are long and cold.

The days are short and cold.

Society is at odds with one another over the election, the (mis)handling of COVID, and the college football playoff. (Alabama, Clemson, and Ohio State again? Who let Notre Dame in? Come on, Man!)

But through it and over it all, God prevails, loves, calls, and welcomes all who…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.

Now go sell something.
