No Longer a Slave, But an Heir

From today’s reading…

As proof that you are sons,

God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts,

crying out, ‘Abba, Father!’

So you are no longer a slave but a son,

and if a son then also an heir, through God.”

According to a study conducted by the NCAA in 2012 only 0.6 percent of high school baseball players make it to the major leagues.

If you think that’s bad, only 0.08 percent of high school football players go on to play at any professional level.

Despite these odds we regularly see sons of former professional athletes make it to the pros.

Heck, quarterback Archie Manning had not one but two sons not only play QB in the NFL, but both won the Super Bowl TWICE!

The Hall of Fame wide receiver, Randy Moss, has a son playing tight end for the undefeated LSU Tigers right now and he’ll definitely play in the pros.

When you stop to think about it, those odds—0.08%—seem insurmountable, and for all intents and purposes, they are.

If you have 10,000 high school football players, and you have 40 on a team, that’s 250 teams.

From those 250 teams, only eight boys will make it to the pros.

EIGHT!

With 32 teams in the NFL, there is a 3.125% chance that a team will win the Super Bowl in any given year, but the average career in the NFL only spans three years.

And Archie Manning has two sons that won two Super Bowls!

You know what makes these against-the-odds situations happen?

These sons had someone to provide an example.

They had a father who had “Been there. Done that. Got the scar tissue, scabs, broken bones, and t-shirt.”

The sons stood on the shoulder of a giant.

Then they took the ball and ran with it. (Pun intended.)

And now here you are, at the start of a new decade, not a slave, but an heir to a legacy greater than any victory in any sport.

You’re standing on the shoulder of the maker of giants.

You’ve been given the perfect example of what it means to live and to love.

You’ve been given the best head coach, the best strength coach, the best conditioning coach, the best nutrition coach, the best sports psychologist, the best stadium, the best field, the best of the best who are 100% behind you, and all He wants is for you to…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.
