No Further Misfortune To Fear

From today’s reading…

Be glad and exult with all your heart,

O daughter Jerusalem!

The LORD has removed the judgment against you,

he has turned away your enemies;

The King of Israel, the LORD, is in your midst,

you have no further misfortune to fear.”

Zephaniah is the fourth-to-last book of the Old Testament and it’s only three chapters long.

It’s primarily a clear, frightful warning to Judah maybe 30-40 years before the fall of Jerusalem in 587 B.C.

Since Jerusalem fell, we know his message was ignored by most. (Play stupid games. Win stupid prizes. But I digress.)

However, it’s also a book of hope.

“Oh good grief, Wes! Are we doomed or are we saved?”

The answer is…yes.

In the third and final chapter of this short book, we find this section I chose for today’s reading.

There will be painful judgment for those who do not listen, and there will be joy and the removal of fear for all who…
