Moses Trembled

From today’s reading…

What you have come to is nothing known to the senses: not a blazing fire, or gloom or total darkness, or a storm; or trumpet-blast or the sound of a voice speaking which made everyone that heard it beg that no more should be said to them. The whole scene was so terrible that Moses said, ‘I am afraid and trembling.’” Hebrews 12:18-21

Ever see those videos of a surprise party where the guest of honor gets so scared they drop what’s in their hands, they scream, they even pass out?

That’s kinda what happened to Moses when he saw the overwhelming joy and festivities of being in the presence of God.

Paul reminds us today that “Mount Zion and the city of the living God” (v22) is where the party’s at…literally and eternally.

God will greet you there but He is “the supreme Judge,” (v23) which might not go the way we are hoping. But we have the greatest public defender ever, Jesus, who will also be there, and He’ll be “the mediator of a new covenant,” (v24) which you and I both need.

However, we can help ourselves to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that we’re worthy of being let into the party if we’ll only…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.
