Moses Laid His Hands On Joshua

From today’s reading…

Now Joshua, son of Nun, was filled with the spirit of wisdom,

since Moses had laid his hands upon him;

and so the children of Israel gave him their obedience,

thus carrying out the LORD’s command to Moses.”

In Deuteronomy 34 God takes Moses up to Mount Nebo and shows him the Promised Land so Moses could die at peace. Despite being 120 years of age, “his eyes were undimmed and his vigor unabated.”

Moses had a spring in his step because he knew he was carrying out the work of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, who were carrying out the work of the Lord.

Through the anointing of Joshua by Moses, he, too, had the blessing and authority to continue leading the Israelites, who were happy to have a man of God lead them.

Following the right leader, who has been chosen by God through an unbroken chain of laying on of hands all the way back to God Himself, is the only way to…
