Live Up To Your Call With Peace
From today’s reading…
…live in a manner worthy of the call you have received, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another through love, striving to preserve the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace:…”
How much peace do you have in your life?
Are you at peace during your morning and evening commute?
Are you at peace with your spouse and children as you get ready for work?
Are you at peace with your staff, vendors, and clients?
Are you at peace with the NFL, Nike, Congress, the Senate, the President, or the local dog catcher?
Are you at peace with Fox News or CNN?
Are you at peace with your physical fitness and overall health?
Are you at peace with your golf game, your progression in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (I must admit I’m a solid NO on both of those, but I digress), your yodeling or ballroom dancing skills?
Are you at peace with your social media debates?
Are you at peace with your smartphone, your cable bill, your car’s fuel efficiency, or your electric bill?
According to a Gallup survey, out of the nearly 100 million full-time workers in the U.S., 51% are not engaged at work, which means they are doing the bare minimum.
But it gets worse. An additional 16% are “actively disengaged,” meaning they complain to co-workers about their jobs, which they resent. Imagine what this does to morale, productivity, and profitability.
When it comes to business survival rates, most small businesses are not a peace either. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Business Employment Dynamics, the percentage of businesses that survive to see their 1st, 2nd, 5th, and 10th birthdays are 80%, 70%, 50%, and 30% respectively.
So it looks like life is pretty much filled with chaos, stress, burdens, and imperfections.
But life is not what happens to us.
Life is how we react to what happens to us.
What good times and bad times have in common is that they do not last.
So relax.
Breathe.
Count to 10.
Give everyone the benefit of the doubt.
Let that jerk over in traffic. (I know he deserves a one-finger salute and a pebble in his windshield, but let him over anyway. You’re too involved in growing by listening to The Sales Podcast to get mad so let him over!)
Let others speak.
Listen to learn and understand.
Let others take credit.
And give everyone time to grow into their full potential, including yourself, which is the only way to…
Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.
