Justice David

From today’s reading…

He said: ‘Here is the king’s spear.

Let an attendant come over to get it.

The LORD will reward each man for his justice and faithfulness.

Today, though the LORD delivered you into my grasp,

I would not harm the LORD’s anointed.’”

Saul was chosen by God to be the first king of Israel.

Samuel was chosen by God to anoint Saul (as well as secretly anoint David as the second king of Israel.)

David loved and admired his king and father-in-law, Saul. In fact, when David killed Goliath, it was for Saul.

But with David’s continued success Saul became jealous and on many occasions tried to kill David.

Despite Saul’s pursuit of David, David respected the position Saul held and the fact he had been anointed by God, so David spared Saul’s life as we read today in 1 Samuel 26.

Respect for the office, respect for the chain of command, respect for the Will of God, respect for tradition, respect for family ties all contributed to how David chose to conduct himself when he was presented the opportunity to kill the one trying to kill him.

Following David’s example is the only way to…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.
