Heed and Listen to Live

From today’s reading…

Come to me heedfully,

listen, that you may have life.

I will renew with you the everlasting covenant,

the benefits assured to David.” Isaiah 55:3

It’s so easy to have eternal life. Just listen, follow instructions, and humble yourself before God.

But we think we are so smart. (How smart can we be if we ignore our vanity, our impulsive nature, and our lack of discipline? But I digress.)

We don’t want anyone telling us what to do and we sure don’t want to be force-fed a list of “thou shall nots” written thousands of years ago in a desert and carried around by people who didn’t even have iPhones, let alone a Tesla!

“RELIGION IS THE OPIATE OF THE MASSES! I HAVE WIKIPEDIA! I DON’T NEED YOUR INVISIBLE FRIEND IN THE SKY AND YOUR ROBED PRIESTS IN GAUDY CHURCHES GUILTING ME INTO GIVING THEM MORE MONEY SO THEY CAN HAND IT OVER TO THEIR CHILD SEX VICTIMS! NO WAY! I’M NOT FALLING FOR THAT! I KNOW BETTER!”

Why are you so angry, Bro? Looks like I struck a nerve.

In all my years I’ve found that truly wise people rarely get upset like that, but those who act like they know it all—those who know they’ve built their business, their relationships, their lives on unstable, untested, unproven concepts—lash out when their weaknesses, their failings, their ignorance are about to be exposed.

Is it because in all your wisdom and decades of numbing yourself with porn, pot, and playoffs you still find yourself asking…

“Why am I so lonely? Why is my life so unfulfilling? Why do I always want more but am never satisfied when I get it? Why are my relationships so shallow and fleeting? Why do good people suffer and bad people thrive? Why does nothing make sense? Why am I so…tired? Well, the game is back on and the porn is free and my dispensary is still open because it was deemed essential so I’ve still got a great source, so I’ll dig deep into all this…later.”

In life, you will heed something whether it’s the government or your best friend or a celebrity or the devil who shows up as lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, and pride.

Since you’ve tried all of those and things aren’t working out for you as you’d hoped and planned, why don’t you try heeding God and see how much easier it is for you to…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.

Now go sell something.
