Heaven On Earth

From today’s reading…

How many times have you heard it said—or even said it—“Ahh, this is heaven on earth”?

Maybe it was when you had a double scoop of Blue Bell ice cream or my momma’s crawfish étouffée. Maybe it was when you watched a sunset over the water or a sunrise from the deck of a mountain cabin surrounded by snow. Maybe it was when you crawled under the blanket on the couch with some popcorn, a movie, surrounded by your favorite people.

Those are all great experiences that certainly hint at the good things God wants to give us, but they pale in comparison to what He has already given us.

You see, God is like an excited child that can’t keep a secret at Christmas and tells his parents what he got them as soon as he gets back from the store. God has literally given us heaven on earth in the Eucharist. Paul reminded the Ephesians of this “little” fact 2,000 years ago, and he’s still reminding us today to begin partaking, which is the best way to…
