He Shall Be Peace

From today’s reading…

And they shall remain, for now his greatness

shall reach to the ends of the earth;

he shall be peace.” Micah 5:3-4

God picks the tiny Bethlehem-Ephrathah to be the home of the “ruler of Israel,” who “shall stand firm and shepherd his flock” to prove that big things come from small packages.

He chose the overlooked city to prove that we should not judge a book—nor a city—by its cover or reputation. He did it to prove that we are not so wise. That we are always in need of help, instruction, guidance, and even protection.

We are the flock in today’s reading. Like sheep, we are in need of protection. Like the sheep with a good shepherd, we “shall remain” and live in peace if only we shall…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.

Now go sell something.
