Grip Your Enemies By The Neck

From today’s reading…

Gather round, sons of Jacob, and listen; listen to Israel your father. Judah, your brothers will praise you: you grip your enemies by the neck, your father’s sons will do you homage.” Genesis 49:2, 8

Ahh, the good ol’ days, when elders were respected, their wisdom sought, their advice followed.

While it is true that one can be held back from making needed progress by adhering too closely to tradition for tradition’s sake, it is also just as true that one can run right off a cliff when trying to prove they are enlightened, brave, progressive, not beholden to the past, free.

(Whew. Let me know how that works out fer ya.)
