God Places Us In Paradise

From today’s reading…

Yahweh God planted a garden in Eden, which is in the east, and there he put the man he had fashioned.” Genesis 2:8

The Garden of Eden was literally paradise. The word paradise is derived from pairidaēza, a noun in the ancient Indo-Iranian language, Avestan, which means “a wall enclosing a garden or orchard.” A Greek mercenary soldier and later historian by the name of Xenophon who spent some time with the Persian army described the massive parks that Persian nobles built and hunted in as paradeisos,

So paradise is order in the midst of chaos. It is structure, it is organization, it is life protected by a wall that tries to keep the chaos and marauders away.

God wanted us to be protected from harm, and He still does, but we opened the walls and invited evil in, which caused us to flee paradise and become lost.

But that is not God’s desire for us. He’s a loving father, a protective lover, a merciful king, so He continues to send us signs and instructions on how to return to Him. All we have to do is open our eyes and follow His lead, which is the only way to…
