Go Outside. Stand. Seek. Find.

From today’s reading…

At the mountain of God, Horeb,

Elijah came to a cave where he took shelter.

Then the LORD said to him,

‘Go outside and stand on the mountain before the LORD;

the LORD will be passing by.’” 1 Kings 19:9, 11

Mt Horeb is another name for Mt Sinai, the mountain where God appeared to Moses and the Israelites. Elijah is wise to seek safety where he knows God is present, but he lacks wisdom in not realizing that God is everywhere but not always in ways that are obvious to our simple minds.

Later in today’s first reading, we see how God was not present in driving winds nor earthquakes nor fire, but in a whisper. (Maybe I’m The God Whisperer®! I’m sorry. I couldn’t help myself. I’ll go to Confession for that one…but you kinda chuckled/groaned/rolled your eyes, didn’t ya? Admit it! Now where was I?)

So learn from Elijah and the lessons God taught him.

God is everywhere but we must be attentive to discover Him. Seek comfort, solace, and refuge in God, which is easier to do when you remove all distractions and go to a holy place. But you can’t hide in there.

You must stand tall and be counted with no distractions, no creature comforts, just you offering your full attention, seeking God who will always give you what you need to…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.

Now go sell something.
