Go Beyond Their Frills

From today’s reading…

‘For I tell you, if your uprightness does not surpass that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never get into the kingdom of Heaven.’” Matthew 5:20

In golf, there’s a saying that you “drive for show and putt for dough.”

What it means is that everyone is impressed by the big, loud, long drive off the tee box but discount the importance and difficulty of the putt since it’s so “simple” and “easy.”

But if you ask any teaching pro worth his or her salt they’ll tell you that golf is learned from the greens back to the tees.

Get good at the short game, i.e. the fundamentals, before you buy that $800 driver, $600 golf bag, and $500 golf outfit, otherwise, you’ll look like a fool

Likewise in your faith, don’t get all caught up in the pomp and circumstance of today’s modern Pharisees.

Many of those in the faith limelight do not need your adulation, donation, or imitation but your prayers for their salvation because they are at best, lost/misguided/confused, and at worst, frauds.

You learn and grow in your faith not in a private jet or a stadium under the lights, but on your knees, which is the only way to…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.

Now go sell something.
