Fulfill The Law of Love
From today’s reading…
Brothers and sisters:
Owe nothing to anyone, except to love one another;
for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.”
I think we have problems loving one another because we can’t give what we don’t have.
We don’t have love because we have allowed the word to become misunderstood.
We have allowed the word love to become misunderstood because we have cut ourselves off from the source.
We cut ourselves off from the source of love when we allow trivial matters, pomp, and circumstance to crowd our lives and clutter our minds.
We cut ourselves off from the source of love when we fail to form our conscious minds.
Without the ability to reference the source—the “gold standard,” the North Star—for calibration and course-correction, it’s easy to lose our way and forget what love really means.
We fail to form our conscious minds when we allow trivial matters, pomp, and circumstance to crowd our lives and clutter our minds. (Yes, I know that’s repetitive/circular. It’s the spiral of death, which happens when you remove true love from your life.)
Today, you—at best—have placed God in the corner along with the fine China that is only to be taken out once or twice a year to be paraded for all to admire for a brief moment…from a distance—but it’s not for the kids—and there’s not enough to go around—so some of you will have to eat off of paper plates—and only the careful adults can handle it…but even they are afraid to really examine it and get comfortable with it, so they cover it up with mashed potatoes and turkey and gravy, wolf down their meal, then wash and put away (God) just in time for more wine, margaritas, dessert, and the game.
Not-so-deep down you know you have had this feeling for longer than you should.
Today, do something about it. Start by going easier on yourself for your past mistakes, but harder on yourself to take responsibility for your future.
By fixing and forming and focusing on your own formation, you will help yourself and help others to…
Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.
