From Morning Until Evening

From today’s reading…

Queen Esther, seized with mortal anguish,

had recourse to the LORD.

She lay prostrate upon the ground, together with her handmaids,

from morning until evening,…”

Mordecai was Esther’s uncle and he refused to honor Haman. So Haman got permission to kill all the Jews.

Despite being a Jew herself, Esther had risen to a place of privilege and became queen but she sacrificed her comfort in order to leverage her power and duty to protect her people.

That is where today’s reading begins. She is distraught at hearing of the decree to kill her people so she leads her people in prayer.

Now I won’t give away the ending about how effective her prayers and efforts were, but suffice it to say a book in the Old Testament bears her name so it seems praying to the Lord day and night is a great way to…
