Don’t Stress. You’re Possessed.
From today’s reading…
In him you also, who have heard the word of truth, the Gospel of your salvation, and have believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, which is the first installment of our inheritance toward redemption as God’s possession, to the praise of his glory.”
In the big scheme of things only a few people heard the Good News either from Jesus or one of His chosen apostles/disciples.
Paul never met Jesus nor did most, if any, of the Ephesians.
However, when the Ephesians heard the Good News from Paul, they believed his message and acted accordingly because they believed Paul was a trusted source.
But what’s a trusted source today?
According to GotQuestions.org there are at least 45 versions of the English Bible. And you can’t throw a bowling ball without hitting a smooth-talking, well-dressed, private-jet-owning televangelist on any given Sunday. Are they to be trusted?
Maybe I can trust Google which shows 18 results on the default map when I search “Christian church near me.” I’m sure I can narrow the search by “best rock band in church” or “which church serves organic, fair trade, shade grown, arabica coffee” or “church with the NFL Red Zone in the lobby.” I mean, one has to have priorities, right?
The truth is, you know the Truth when you hear it—when it finds you—because it grabs you. It embeds itself into your mind, your heart, your soul because its source is the source of your soul. That’s what “sealed with the promised Holy Spirit” means.
So take comfort in knowing you are possessed because it’s the only way to…
Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.
