Do His Will

From today’s reading…

It is not anyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ who will enter the kingdom of Heaven, but the person who does the will of my Father in heaven.” Matthew 7:21

Hmmm, how do we reconcile this with Galatians 2:15-16,

“We who were born Jews and not gentile sinners have nevertheless learnt that someone is reckoned as upright not by practising the Law but by faith in Jesus Christ; and we too came to believe in Christ Jesus so as to be reckoned as upright by faith in Christ and not by practising the Law: since no human being can be found upright by keeping the Law.”

Is God trying to confuse us?

Did Jesus not know what God meant?

Maybe Paul lost his mind for a bit.

No. Nah. Nope.

The difference is “the will of my Father” and “practising the Law.”

Salvation is not a color-by-numbers routine anymore than having a loving marriage is. The Jews of Moses had 613 commandments and they believed they would be welcomed into heaven by simply following them all.

Jesus tells us it’s the Spirit of the Law versus the letter of the law that is most important, which is why you must…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.

Now go sell something.
