From today’s reading…

If I sit down in my garage it doesn’t make me Ferrari.

If I go to the gym and walk on a treadmill while reading Facebook it doesn’t turn me into Mr. Universe.

Likewise, eating or abstaining from certain foods or wearing or not wearing certain clothes or saying certain prayers at a certain time of day or attending a worship service weekly or even daily won’t suddenly “save” you or even make you a decent human being. (I know a bunch of pious people who make sure the world sees their piousness, which blinds them to realizing the world only sees them as arrogant. But I digress.)

It’s your faith that saves you. 

But Paul reminds us in his letter to James that faith without works is dead.
