Commandments Connect When They are Clear and Concise
From today’s reading…
In those days:
God delivered all these commandments:”
In Exodus 20 today we read all of the 10 Commandments as delivered directly by God in just 17 verses.
Great leaders can lay down the law, i.e. set their expectations, with clarity and brevity. (Can great leadership—or leadership at all—even occur without clear and concise communication?)
Think back to grade school. The first day you set foot in your new homeroom the great teachers made you feel welcome while also clearly establishing their role as sole leader of that universe.
Ditto for Lou Holtz, Nick Saban, John Wooden, and all the legendary coaches through the ages.
Ditto for Rockefeller, Ford, Walton, Jobs, Oprah, Blakely, and Buffett.
The Gettysburg Address is at most 270 words, which, when spoken at the lower end of the average rate of speech, takes no more than two and a half minutes to deliver.
Great leaders need to bring a community together so they have someone to lead.
There is no community without communication. In fact, the root of both words comes from the Latin communis, meaning “public, common, shared by all or many.”
There is no love without community. (How can you love if you are alone?)
And being in a loving community, with God at the top, is the only way to…
Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.
