Born of a Promise

From today’s reading…

Scripture says that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave girl and one by the freewoman. The son of the slave girl came to be born in the way of human nature; but the son of the freewoman came to be born through a promise.” Galatians 4:22-23

Ishmael was born of Hagar. Isaac was born of Sarah after her many years of infertility. Ishmael and his mother were banished to the desert, but not all was lost. He lived to be 137 according to Genesis and God promised to Abraham that from Ishmael He would “make into a great nation, for he too is your child.” Genesis 21:13

However, one verse earlier God informs Abraham that “Isaac is the one through whom your name will be carried on.”

It’s no accident that the path from the slavery of sin to salvation flows through the free son. All we must do is accept our inheritance and do as our Father instructs us to…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.
