Be Generous, Sympathetic, and Forgiving

From today’s reading…

Be generous to one another, sympathetic, forgiving each other as readily as God forgave you in Christ.” Ephesians 4:32

If you can’t get off of social media repeat this mantra as you scroll: “Not my circus. Not my monkey.” Try it right now. Say “Not my circus. Not my monkey.” ten times out loud. I’ll wait.

Look, the goo-roos behind the social media platforms know how to wind you up. When you’re in an aroused, angry, hyped-up state, how kind, calm, and forgiving are you? How kind, calm, and generous are those who vote differently from you?

We all say and do stupid things regularly. We want God to forgive us but as we repeat in The Lord’s Prayer, “Forgive us our trespasses, AS WE FORGIVE those who trespass against us.”

With eight days to go “until the most important election of our lives” where “the very livelihood of our democracy is at stake” (am I the only one who thinks of “The Boy Who Cried Wolf” every time I hear these breathless appeals?), now would be a great time to “Be generous to one another, sympathetic, forgiving each other as readily as God forgave you in Christ.” because it’s the only way to…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.
