Be Fair and Square When Buying a Hectare
From today’s reading…
Therefore, when you sell any land to your neighbor or buy any from him, do not deal unfairly.”
What a novel concept these days: dealing fairly with one another.
After 11 years in business I’ve learned the hard way why companies have those mile-long Terms and Conditions on their websites and contracts.
“Pulling a fast one” is the name of the game for most today.
Case in point, “borrowing” clothes from stores is so prevalent has its own name: “wardrobing.”
People will go get a cooler and a grill from a store, use it at a tailgate or picnic, and return it the next day.
I’ve had customers buy training from me, go through training with us and file a chargeback for the full amount, lose the chargeback, then commit perjury as they try to sue for their training fee.
That’s why you must negotiate from a position of strength—to protect yourself—then give back a little to the other party as a sign of good faith.
They will be amazed and will speak highly of you for years to come.
You can’t fight fire with fire when you negotiate with unethical people.
If you encounter one who deals unfairly you must either refuse to do business with them or drive a hard bargain while watching your back, then give in just a little so they know that not everyone “is out to get them.”
Hint: a warning sign that you’re probably dealing with one who deals unfairly is if they proclaim with great pride and joy that “I’m a Christian,” especially if they open the dialogue with it or spring it on your during the final negotiations.
“Why you can trust me. I’m a Christian.”
If you have to tell me you’re a good person, that you have great service, that you care about your staff and your customers…it’s probably not the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
“Preach the Gospel at all times. When necessary, use words.” ~St. Francis of Assisi.
