Ask The Lord As Hannah Does

From today’s reading…

She conceived, and at the end of her term bore a son

whom she called Samuel, since she had asked the LORD for him.”

Hannah was one of the wives of Elkanah and was distraught over her infertility.

In her time it was considered a source of shame to be unable to conceive, so we see Hannah in the temple, praying to the Lord for a son.

Upon seeing her “pouring out (her) troubles to the Lord,” which had “been prompted by (her) deep sorrow and misery,” Eli, the priest of the temple told her,

Go in peace,

and may the God of Israel grant you what you have asked of him.”

Hannah thanked the priest then,

She went to her quarters, ate and drank with her husband,

and no longer appeared downcast.”

In other words, Hannah didn’t wallow around in despair and pity, dragging everyone down with her.

She offered up her worries and concerns to God and got on with her life.

She loved her husband.

She was pleasant to be around.

She took her troubles to the Lord and trusted Him to answer her prayers as He saw fit.

By continuing to love her husband and trust in the Lord, she conceived Samuel, and the rest is history.

See what happens when you…

Stay the course. Keep the faith. Endure.
